COFFEE TALK: from Therapy on Tao to Kangaroo in your dog’s food

The Original 1855 Dawn Manor Restaurant in the Wisconsin Dells is getting villas as a next door neighbor, making it more likely to become a destination restaurant. The Villas will open in tandem with the Dawn Manor Restaurant, managed by Morrissey Hospitality. The historic, period-themed destination will feature a restaurant, bar, speakeasy and gift shop. Many of the original elements of the house, including the stone-by-stone relocation of the exterior sandstone veneer stone, has been preserved, according to a release. The 1800s-themed restaurant will also offer room service and private chef services for the villas

Tired of crying in your beer alone at the bar? According to an article in the Star Tribune, you may not have to. Lindsey and Adam Steinbach, therapists and co-founders of As You Are Therapy offered Therapy on Tap, a matchmaking service last Sunday at Bad Weather Brewing Company, where people could hook up with a diverse collection of professional therapists. And if a match is made, it will hopefully leading to setting a date for a therapy session.

Morrissey Hospitality has promoted three key leaders – Elizabeth Morrissey-BrownJohnessa Hardyman and Amy Houston.

Johnessa Hardyman will now lead financial operations as vice president of finance Since 2012, she has worked in nearly every accounting role, earning a master’s in accountancy along the way.

Amy Houston will oversee marketing efforts as vice president of marketing & communications. She has led the company’s marketing, sales, and online strategy for 18 independent brands since 2021.

Elizabeth Morrissey-Brown has been promoted to senior vice president. Morrissey-Brown grew up in the hospitality business. Her father, Bill, founded the company when she was 3-years-old. She previously worked at New York’s Waldorf Astoria and Johnson Brothers Liquor Company, before returning to the family business in 2018. For the last four years, she held the title of vice president of business development and marketing for Morrissey where she expanded the footprint of the company beyond Minnesota.

Peabody

On a personal note: While buying my dog’s Nutri Source dry food at Chuck and Don’s Pet Food and Supplies in Northeast Minneapolis, I was treated to a free package of Jivin’ Jerky. I didn’t choose the one with salmon in it, because my dog likes to rub his face in fish guts on walks around lakes. I glanced to see that the second choice had lamb and beef, so I grabbed that one. When Peabody refused to eat the treat, preferring to rub his head on it, I read the label more closely. The third ingredient was kangaroo. As an Aussiedoodle, I’m guessing for Peabody eating kangaroo might be a familiar scent locked in his DNA and one that he’d rather wear than eat. He’s also a picky eater, which is very undoglike.

An internet search revealed that kangaroo is one of the leanest sources of protein, making it the perfect choice for pets struggling with their weight (as is Peabody). It’s also less likely to cause allergies than chicken or beef. Kangaroo, captured in the wild, is an export of Australia, but surprisingly (at least to me), Nutri Source is a Minnesota company. So I guess I won’t be taking Peabody out to Delano to meet his fellow country animals any time soon.
